HERMES BIRKIN

NAME ORIGIN
The Birkin Bag was named after the actress Jane Birkin. Jean-Louis Dumas was inspired to design a handbag that literally "can hold anything".
According to Hermès, the Birkin Bag owes its existence to an encounter with actress Jane Birkin and Hermès CEO Jean-Louis Dumas on a flight from Paris to London in 1983 Flug dropped her purse and a Hermès Agenda emptied onto the floor, prompting the actress to complain that there was no roomy Hermès women's handbag. Dumas introduced himself and invited Jane Birkin to his studio, where the Birkin bag was created according to her ideas and wishes. Another tale, also circulating from various sources, is that Jean-Louis Dumas, then CEO of Hermès, was on the plane next to British actress Jane Birkin. During the conversation, Jane mentioned that she couldn't find a suitable bag that was both simple and functional. She wanted a bag that offers enough storage space and can also be used as a travel bag for short weekend trips. Based on the design of the 'Haut à courroies', Dumas went to work on the fly and sketched out a bag that would meet all these needs. The Birkin Bag was launched shortly after. The first Birkin bag was presented in 1984 - and this bag advanced to an IT bag and has now reached dizzying prices, even on the second-hand market.
